Minimum Qualifications For Vocational Instructor 1 - Associate's Degree in related trade are and 2 years of appropriate trade experience OR a Bachelor's Degree in any area and 1 year of related trade experience.
For Vocational Instructor 2 - Associate's Degree in a related trade area including or supplemented by 12 college credits in pedagogy core course work earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: Human Development and Learning; Teaching Students with Disabilities and Special Health Needs; Curriculum Instruction, and Assessment; and English Language Arts or Communication Skills; and 2 years of related trade experience. OR a Bachelor's Degree in any area including or supplemented by 12 college credits as described above.
For Vocational Instructor 3 - Initial certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.
For Vocational Instructor 4 - Professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.
Duties Description Makes plans for teaching assignment consistent with and based on overall course objectives. May administer standard tests or observe the learners ability to use tools, machines or other equipment to assess learners abilities and development. Administers practical and/or theory tests to determine a learners prior achievements in the subject field. Utilizes an approved standard syllabus in a vocational subject area and/or may, under direction, modify or develop a syllabus to meet the special needs of the individuals in the group. From daily lesson plan, determine need for and request tools, machinery, texts, review books, workbooks, teaching aids, materials, and equipment. Conduct the class session using daily lesson plan as a guide.
