Minimum Qualifications A Bachelors’ Degree and two years of professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s Degree in the appropriate field and one year of professional research experience in that field. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Degrees held must be related to Geographic Information Systems or Remote Sensing and Aviation Sciences.
Area of Specialty is Forest Health with a focus on Geomatics (the gathering, storing, processing, analyzing and reporting geographic information, or spatially referenced information) and preference will be given to candidates who possess academic credentials and experience in the following fields: remote sensing, geographic information systems, aerial detection systems, digital image analysis, thematic classification and hazard assessments.
Duties Description Design, develop and implement integrated spatial technologies for forest health aerial and ground detection surveys, trap deployment, and priority actions.
Design surveys for general forest health conditions and in response to emergency insect or disease or abiotic occurrence in NY’s forests.
Provide geomatic training and support.
Assist with the preparation of grant proposals.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel and overnight travel may be required.
