Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or possession of a high school equivalency diploma or a USAFI GED certificate (high school level).
Preferred Qualifications: Undergraduate degree or course work in the life sciences (environmental science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, environmental engineering or studies) is preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in Microsoft Excel and Access software programs.
Duties Description This position in the Bureau of Air Quality Planning will provide important support to the five Engineers responsible for the emission inventory and development of air quality plans. The emission inventory effort is an annual effort to review and input the emission statement data so the Department can deliver emission fee bills in a timely manner. In addition to emission inventory priorities, staff are responsible for developing, drafting, proposing and adopting air quality plans and regulations that are needed in order to bring areas in New York State into attainment with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and other requirements, including greenhouse gases. The Engineering Aide will be responsible for the following tasks:
Input emission inventory data into the Air Facility System emission inventory module and other approved emission inventory software.
Research scientific literature for the purpose of developing new or updated emission factors.
Assist in preparation of emission inventory reports, including web-based presentation of emissions data.
Assist in development of air quality plans and other related reports.
Additional Comments This is a part-time, seasonal position through March 31, 2018 not to exceed 1640 hours per State fiscal year. Program needs and or funding will determine the actual termination date of the position which may be prior to the date indicate here.
