Minimum Qualifications On or before the date of filing your application, you must have:
Either 1. Four years of hands on experience in a commercial, industrial, institutional facility or residential setting performing diagnosis, operation, maintenance AND repair of HVAC systems.
2. Completion of a HVAC certificate or diploma from BOCES with three years of post- certificate experience.
3. Completion of an approved certificate in HVAC from an accredited technical school or technology college with three years of post-certificate experience.*
4. Completion of a formal apprenticeship program which issues a license as a Stationary Engineer or Boiler Operator.
5. A valid license for high pressure boiler operating Engineer issued by the NYC department of buildings.
6. A bachelor’s degree (from SUNY Maritime College) in Facilities Engineering.

The following military experience is considered examples of qualifying experience:
U.S. Air Force: Experience as a (HVAC) heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration technician with the U.S. Air Force. A DD214 will need to be provided at the time of interview.
U.S. Coast Guard: Experience as a Machinery Technician (MK) with the U.S. Coast Guard. A DD214 will need to be provided at the time of interview.
U.S. Army: Experience as a Power Generation Equipment Repairer or Utilities Equipment Repairer with the U.S. Army. A DD214 will need to be provided at the time of interview.
U.S Navy/Marine Corps: Experience as a Gas Turbine Systems Technician, Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator Reactor Control, Machinist Mate, or Engineman with the U.S. Navy/Marine Corps. A DD214 will need to be provided at the time of interview.
U.S Merchant Marine: U.S. Merchant Marine: Must have a merchant mariner’s document (MMD) and be a qualified member of the engine department (QMED) as an oiler, fireman/watertender, refrigerating engineer or engineman.
Guard/Reserve:
Same experience requirements are needed as above for the Guard/Reserve. If you do not have a DD214, we will accept a Certificate of Discharge or Leave & Earnings Statement (LES) pay stub. You will need to provide this information at the time of interview. Experience in the qualifying area will be prorated.
*Certification program must be accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology or recognized by the NYSED Bureau of Proprietary Schools.

Duties Description As a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 on an assigned shift, you would operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test, and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner. You would make recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment and identify, recommend, and develop energy conservation projects. You may supervise subordinate staff in the operation and maintenance of heating facilities and mechanical equipment. You may also supervise contractors in an emergency or project situation and you may be required to assume responsibility for operations of the overall physical plant.

Additional Comments This will be a Night Shift position.
