Minimum Qualifications Open to New York State employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Professional Engineer 3 Civil/Transportation and eligible to transfer via §70.1 in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates must possess a valid NYS Professional Engineering license.

Duties Description Dam Safety Engineer - Reporting to the Manager of Engineering & Maintenance, the Dam Safety Engineer would be responsible for the NYS Canal Corporation's Statewide Dam Safety program. The NYS Canal Corporation is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and capital rehabilitation of a portfolio of concrete gravity, earthen, and movable dams, as well as other water impounding structures. Duties would include programmatic oversight of engineering inspections, maintenance plans, Emergency Action Plans, and engineering design. The Dam Safety Engineer would provide administrative supervision to other licensed professional engineers and would be required to manage engineering consulting firms in support of the Dam Safety program. Knowledge of federal and state standards and guidelines related to dam safety is preferred.
