Minimum Qualifications Currently there are no promotional or open competitive lists established for appointment to this title. An examination date is to be determined. Candidates with one year of full time experience as a Senior Public Information Specialist/Public Information Specialist 1 are eligible for transfer. An appointment may be made on a provisional basis. Provisional qualifications are as follows: (1) One year of service as a Public Information Specialist; or (2) Bachelor's degree in media, communications, journalism; broadcasting, public relations, or related field (does not include personal blogging, web page design, English or theater); and two years of experience in public or governmental relations; and/or writing or producing content for various media; or (3) Six years of such experience as described above.
Duties Description This position in located in the Media and Publications office, a full service marketing, media and communications unit, at the New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF). Major duties of this position include writing and producing content for various media while assuming many roles, tasks and responsibilities, including sole responsibility for a major segment of NYSIF's internal communications function. Major tasks and responsibilities may include interviewing, news gathering, editing, proofreading, preparing headlines, images, captions, applying graphic design and layout skills, electronic and print newsletter production and sometimes supervising administrative and lower level creative staff.
