Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent status as a Senior Sanitarian, G-18.
Provisional Promotion Candidates: DOH employee with one year of permanent service as a Public Health Sanitarian, G-14.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience in enforcement of health care facility compliance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes and standards, and the federal conditions of participation for Title XVIII (Medicare) and Title XIX (Medicaid) programs. Working knowledge of Public Health Laws, environmental health standards, and local codes and regulations. Experience in evaluating Certificate of Need applications and progress of projects. Excellent skills in verbal communication, report writing, prioritizing of assignments, time management and use of varied computer programs.
Duties Description Conduct on-site and off-site nursing home and adult day health care program surveillance activities for initial certification, recertification and complaint investigations to determine compliance with Life Safety Code and environmental health standards per federal, New York State, public health and local codes, rules and regulations. Complete electronic and/or hard copy reports detailing facility compliance and identified deficient practices per Federal and State performance measures. Review plans of correction and conduct follow-up visits to determine ongoing compliance. Assist in review and monitoring of facility projects, emergency preparedness and disaster response. Function independently and as an effective team member. Provide oversight and training of sanitarian trainees.
Additional Comments Permanent or Provisional, Full Time. Candidates appointed provisionally will be required to pass a qualifying Civil Service exam and be immediately reachable for appointment on the resulting eligible list. Candidates must pass Fire Inspector 1 and other exams as required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to conduct surveys. Field work is required; candidates must be capable of meeting travel requirements.
