Minimum Qualifications • Candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service Safety & Security Officer 2 List, or currently in title, or eligible for transfer.
• Candidates must possess or obtain a valid class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s license, be at least 18 years of age, and be physically able, as determined by the Employee Health Service Section of the Department of Civil Service, to perform the activities and tasks of this class.
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Will perform all of the same duties and functions as a SSO1, but will also provide direction and guidance to SSO1s, including training and instructions in security techniques and requirements, first aid, and fire prevention.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct supervision of all Safety and Security Officers 1:
• Participate in the recruitment and hiring of Safety and Security Officers
• Schedule and assign Safety and Security Officers to specific posts
• Provide onsite training and instruction in security techniques and requirements, first aid, and fire prevention
• Maintain time and attendance records
• Review subordinate officers reports of activities and incidents for accuracy, completeness, and propriety of format
• Prepare required reports, including competency assessment and performance appraisals
• Assist the Chief Safety and Security Officer in performance appraisal of subordinate Safety and Security Officers
• May be assigned to direct the department in the absence of the Chief Safety and Security officer
Review facility safety and security plans for compliance with applicable facility environment of care policies and procedures:
• Assist in the development, monitoring, and enforcement of safety and security policies, rules, and regulations
• Attend facility safety committee meetings
• Schedule and observe fire drills and safety inspections
• Conduct safety and security training sessions for facility staff
• Work with facility management to develop community security plan
• Review critical incidents, safety reports, accident reports, and ensure that appropriate services are available
• Assist in the investigation of suspected violations
• Investigate lost, missing and stolen property on and off site
Periodically instruct subordinates in the proper techniques of operation and maintenance of facility owned firefighting equipment
Prepare required written reports:
• Review daily incident, accident, and safety reports and report issues to Chief Safety and Security Officer
• Ensure that all relevant safety and security issues are brought to the attention of the facility Risk Management Team
• Participate in the development of safety and security corrective action plans
• Prepare required statistical and narrative reports
