Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There are no education or experience requirements. Candidates must be physically able to perform the full functions of the position. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Able to perform tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort including lifting.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and other staff.
• Ability to work both as a team member and independently as required by the assignment.
• Additional skills in maintenance trades.
Duties Description The New York State School for the Blind is seeking to fill a Laborer position. The Laborer performs a variety of routine manual tasks, requiring medium to heavy physical effort. They may also assist in operations by performing routine activities; may frequently work outdoors in inclement weather; may use hand tools and operate motor driven equipment.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, 12-month position. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.
* Leads to a maximum salary of $35,704 through annual performance advances.
