Minimum Qualifications OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
- Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
- Must be able to communicate orally with other staff and park patrons.
- The incumbent must be available to work weekends and holidays as necessary.
- Must have a valid NYS driver’s license at the time of appointment and must maintain as a term and condition of employment.
- Applicants must be willing to keep up on all mandated safety trainings including First Aid and CPR/AED.
- Must complete “Game of Logging” chainsaw safety and productivity training program when offered.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Peebles Island Supervisor, the selected candidate will be involved in every aspect of park maintenance, both skilled and semi-skilled areas. The incumbent will be responsible for performing and supervising maintenance and grounds keeping activities, may act independently with a minimum of direct supervision. Perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers and power saws. Operate self-propelled equipment. Load and unload cargo from vehicles and storage. Perform building and ground maintenance and cleaning activities. Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs. Assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate work of lower level employees. During winter months, assist in snow removal, shoveling snow, and will operate vehicles to plow snow. Assist with pruning and tree trimming activities involving the operation of chain saw, stump grinder, bucket truck, and chipper. Assist in building and repairing roads, paths, picnic tables, benches, pavilions, trails and park equipment. Assist in other areas of park operations as needed.
Additional Comments Incumbent must be able to work some holidays as needed.
