Minimum Qualifications Baccalaureate degree and 8 years current practical experience working in a field requiring significant business analysis, risk assessment and management, developing programs and procedures, documenting processes, writing reports and delivering presentations.
Experience must include:
Analytical problem solving
Risk identification, assessment and mitigation
Managing or working effectively as part of cross functional teams, and developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships
Proficient in MS Office Suite
Duties Description Under the direction of the Director of Risk Management, the incumbent is responsible for managing the day-to-operations of the Enterprise Risk Department, developing and implementing department goals and objectives, and coaching and mentoring staff.
Specific responsibilities include ensuring the quality and execution of NYSTRS enterprise risk management program including oversight of data collection and analysis, risk assessment, reporting, process development, documentation and quality assurance; as well as the general and technical supervision and development of staff. The incumbent will prepare and as requested, present reports to NYSTRS' executive staff, management team, and Retirement Board.
Additional Comments Significant experience developing an enterprise risk management program and risk framework, including identifying key risks, key risk indicators, risk appetites and tolerance, and reporting protocols
Experience applying industry recognized enterprise risk management frameworks such as those developed by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) or International Organization for Standarization (ISO)
Experience conducting enterprise-wide risk assessments and developing risk treatment strategies in support of the organization’s strategic objectives Experience designing and implementing appropriate internal controls
Experience overseeing or conducting an investment compliance program
Experience overseeing or implementing a comprehensive insurance program
Experience facilitating resolution of complex issues and developing action plans/mitigating strategies
Experience developing case studies and leading workshops
Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical ability
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Public pension plan experience related to the job functions of this position
Supervisory experience
Advanced degree in accounting, business administration, finance, information services or other field closely related to NYSTRS core business functions
Professional designations including Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Account (CPA), or other credentials closely related to risk assessment, internal control implementation or proficiency in a field closely related to NYSTRS core business functions or commitment to pursue to completion
