Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Manager, Information Technology Services 1 (Data Communications).
§52.6 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-25 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Manager, Information Technology Services 1 (Data Communications) eligible list may be considered for appointment.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $109,133 with annual performance advances.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applicants for a Manager, Information Technology Services 1 (Data Communications) position. The incumbent will manage NYSED’s Network and Telecommunications Services unit, which provides local and wide-area network solutions, telecommunications support, and security operations support. Major responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Lead the NYSED ITS Network and Telecommunications Services unit;
• Lead capacity planning, network design, configuration, and implementation activities for LAN, WAN, and wireless networks;
• Manage telecommunications and call center environments;
• Manage inter-agency and business partner networking;
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot performance issues and outages;
• Maintain network design and change control documentation;
• Manage NYSED Internet domains and DNS infrastructure;
• Lead capacity planning, security design, configuration, and implementation activities for firewalls, IPS, URL Filtering, and other security technologies in conjunction with the NYSED Information Security Office;
• Investigate network security incidents and perform necessary remediation;
• Coordinate IT network project activities with various NYSED units, other NYS agencies, partners, and vendors;
• Supervise subordinate staff and manage vendor relationships; and
• Manage billing and chargeback activities and verify accuracy.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position requires periodic off-shift and weekend work.
