Minimum Qualifications • Permanent or Contingent Permanent status as a Nurse Administrator 1 with New York State. OR
• Reachable for appointment from the Civil Service list.
PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT:
• You must be a qualified employees of New York State and have two years of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:
• A. Nurse 2 (Psychiatric), Community Mental Health Nurse, Infection Control Nurse or Senior Utilization Review Nurse;
OR
• B. Two years in any Grade 16 or higher position that requires a license and current New York State registration as a Registered Nurse.
Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Supervision of the nursing staff:
• Provides oversight, guidance and training to insure tasks and standards are met.
• Orientation/mentoring of new CMHNs and RNs.
• Completes evaluations in a timely manner.
• Provides corrective and positive feedback to subordinate staff.
• Demonstrates the ability to advocate for individuals’ health care needs.
• Interacts with primary, medical specialists, various clinical staff, as necessary.
• Sit in interviews of RNs/LPNs as requested.
• Provides guidance and training to newly hired CMHNs/RNs/LPNs.
Ensures adequate nursing staffing:
• Maintains full responsibility for the allocation of resources by creating well-balanced schedules.
• Conducts regular rounds to at least two homes a week to ensure coordination and delivery of nursing care.
Coordinates DDSO-wide Hospital Liaison Function:
• Supervises CMHNs and RNs who complete hospital visits
• Addresses concerns relating to an individual’s care and discharge planning activities for hospitalizations.
Provides technical assistance within the DDSO and voluntary agencies:
• Provides assistance in areas such as recording audit, individual health and safety, infection control and medication administration.
Completes nursing audits at the IRAs/ICF/Day Program:
• Completes record reviews and works closely with NPC to review findings and develop a plan of corrective action.
• Identifies problems and/or opportunities for personal and/or nursing department improvement (s) and contributes to the development of an action plan.
Completes assignments designated by the Nursing Program Coordinator:
• Assists with development, revision and implementation of nursing, medication, DDSO policies and procedures, Plans of Nursing Services, POCAs, etc.
• Completes special assignments designated by the NPC.
• Keeps NPC informed of issues/concerns.
• Notifies NPC of weekly schedules and changes as they occur, using established formats.
Completes other tasks to promote professional development and contribute to the agency:
• Participates in various committees e.g. Medication Error committee, IRC, Traineeship Council, Health and Safety, etc.
• Represents the nursing department at workshops, work groups, etc., when requested.
• Attends and assists in Nursing Discipline meetings.
• Attends/completes on-line mandated DDSO trainings, as well as available discipline specific training.
