Bachelor's or higher level degree including or supplemented by at least 60 semester credit hours in the physical sciences and mathematics, at least 30 semester credit hours of which must be in geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or geophysics.
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 13 or higher and:

NOTE: In accordance with Chapter 475 of the Laws of 2014, all professional geologists in New York State must obtain licensure under Title VIII of the Education Law; based on this, if appointed to this position you may be required to obtain your professional license in geology in order to be permanently appointed. Hiring preference will be given to those candidates who have already obtained their professional geology license.
Duties Description Serve as Project Manager on multiple environmental remediation projects in Remedial Bureau C. Under oversight of more senior staff, the candidate will perform geologic investigations of contaminated sites in the Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP), Brownfield, and Superfund programs. Responsibilities will include collection and interpretation of geologic data, both as project manager and as in-house adviser to other staff members. Candidate will assist in reviewing geologic data related to investigations of contaminated soil, groundwater and soil vapor including review of work plans, remedial investigations and monitoring the effectiveness of existing remedial and monitoring systems. Additional duties may be discussed during interview. Duties may include on-site logging of boreholes and collection of soil, water, and vapor samples, and/or oversight of consultants and contractors performing these functions. Travel, including overnight travel to job sites statewide will be required, but will generally constitute less than 20 percent of overall time.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including respirator, will be required. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
