Eligible for lateral transfer or eligible for 70.1 transfer by having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title.

Accountant Trainee 1, NS:

Eligible for lateral transfer or eligible for 70.1 transfer by having one year of permanent competitive service in one of the following titles.

If qualifying for either the Senior Accountant or Accountant Trainee 1 based upon service in one of the transferable titles included in the attached links, with an asterisk (*SPL), you must submit a list of qualifying coursework with your application that shows you have 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation. You must provide the course name, the number of semester credit hours received, and the name of the accredited college or university attended. Although you may have received credit for courses such as business law, economics, statistics, or finance as part of your accounting curriculum, these courses cannot be counted toward the required 24 semester credit hours. You may also provide college transcripts. Include separate undergraduate and graduate transcripts for each college attended. If contacted for an interview, you will be required to provide a copy of your college transcript(s) in order to verify statements made in your resume. Official or unofficial copies will be accepted.

Note: Candidates who are currently on the eligible list for the Senior Accountant/Accountant Trainee 1 in Harlem need not submit an application for this posting unless they are applying directly as a result of the transfer qualifications listed above.

Duties Description Duties will include, but not be limited to:
The incumbent of this position will work in the Bureau of Financial Services' Downstate Field Operations Unit, and will be responsible for the oversight of Federal and State reimbursement claims submitted by the New York City (NYC) Department of Social Services (DSS). Under the direct supervision of an Associate Accountant, the incumbent will review expenditure claims for appropriateness and analyze the supporting documentation maintained by NYC DSS. Each month the incumbent will prepare Excel worksheets for variation analysis purposes and write a summary claims review report. The incumbent will also provide technical assistance to NYC DSS as well as respond to their inquiries.

Additional Comments A full-time, permanent appointment will be made. Travel within New York City and neighboring counties, including but not limited to, Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester is required. Also, limited travel to Albany may be necessary. If certified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title.

Salary for Trainee 1 is 44,564.

This position includes $3026 in location pay.
