Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, genetics or biology and three years of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in bioinformatics, genetics or biology and two years of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications: Genetics background with clinical counseling experience preferred as well as knowledge of current genetic testing methods. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Duties Description The Research Scientist 2 will support the Newborn Screening Program by relaying test results to clinicians, examining testing algorithms, analyzing data, and performing other duties as assigned, including educating parents impacted by screening. The program screens approximately 250,000 newborn specimens annually for 47 conditions.

Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may also be required.
