Minimum Qualifications • Five or more years of experience in IBM mainframe z/OS Operating System plus installation, maintenance and configuration of associated software products.
• Experience working in a multi-LPAR environment.
• Planning and execution of upgrades and migrations.
• Creation and implementation of test plans for verification of installed software.
• Perform change control activities as required for software installation and maintenance.
• Assist with diagnosis and resolution of complex problems in a multi-system environment.

The following degrees, preferably in Computer Science, may substitute for the general experience as indicated:

• Associate’s degree and four years of experience

• Associate’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and three years of experience

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience

• Bachelor’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and two years of experience

• Master’s degree in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of experience

• Doctorate in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional 2 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the technical background, the ideal candidate will have:
• Ten or more years of experience in IBM mainframe z/OS Operating System plus installation, maintenance and configuration of associated software products.

• Experience with the following IBM mainframe subsystems or features: z/OS, JES2, Job Control Language (JCL), SMP/E, Assembler, CLIST, REXX, ISPF/TSO, WLM and Batch Processing.

• Experience with the following ISV software products: suite of CA products, Syncsort, SAS and MXG.

• Self-motivated.

• Able to work alone as well as in a team environment.

• Able to multi-task/shift tasks efficiently.

• Possess good written and oral communication skills.

• Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the assigned unit and across organizational boundaries.

Duties Description Under the direction of Information Technology Services 4, within the Chief Operations Office/Data Center Hosting/IBM Mainframe Support (DCH IBMMF) Section, the incumbent will perform duties in support of this group.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Ensure IBM mainframe environments are properly maintained through the use of standardized installation, configuration and optimization processes which support mainframe hardware, software, and operating system (z/OS and z/VM) upgrades and modifications.

• Maintenance activities support environments which provide essential services for ITS, DMV, DOCCS, DOH, DOT, HESC, HCR, DOL, Gaming Commission, DOS, OMH, DFS, and Tax constituents.

• Provide junior level project support by assisting with the gathering, organizing, and analyzing of information to identify advantages, disadvantages, and technical feasibility of project goals and activities.

• Complete customer driven service requests as well as internal core data center infrastructure support activities.

• Complete detailed technical procedures and documentation used by ITS and customer staff in support of IBM Mainframe environments.

• Assist when possible with diagnosis and complex problems in a multi-system environment.

• Execute standardization recommendations of system software configurations to improve the efficiency, security, and availability of systems.

• Support production, test, and disaster recovery environments for the ITS IBM Mainframe customers.

• Installation of IBM systems support and third-party independent software vendor (ISV) software products.

• Customization of installed software to meet ITS-Enterprise Operations (EO) standards and agency customer requirements.

• Creation and implementation of test plans for verification of installed software.

• Perform change control activities as required for software installation and maintenance.
