Duties Description Investigative Specialists 1 (Motor Vehicle), as certified NY State Peace Officers, conduct a variety of field investigations and are required to conduct basic law enforcement functions such as arrests, testimony, and prisoner transport. Investigators conduct investigations of forged ownership and identity documents, and suspected fraud or deceit by registrants, licensees, or applicants. They use facial recognition technology to uncover multiple identities and identity theft schemes. They investigate those engaged in stealing vehicles, including organized auto theft rings; these investigations include determining the true identity of vehicles by conducting forensic vehicle examinations and locating vehicle identification numbers to detect stolen vehicles and component parts. Investigators apprehend and assist in the prosecution of those involved in the perpetration of the aforementioned criminal activities. They are experts in, and provide other law enforcement agencies training for the detection of fraudulent documents, auto theft, and other motor vehicle related matters. Assignments may require working overtime and travel.

Additional Comments You will be required to have your physical and medical condition evaluated, participate in a drug screening test, participate in a psychological evaluation, and submit to an investigative screening; you must also obtain and maintain a firearm permit from New York City, be qualified to hold peace officer status in accordance with state law, and be a United States Citizen and New York State Resident.
