Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades-worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course. Must posses a clean and valid NYS Class B driver's license with air brake endorsement. The ideal candidate will have a clean and valid NYS Class A driver's license with trailer and air brake endorsements.
Duties Description Will be tasked with assisting in all construction and maintenance projects. Must have a working knowledge of construction tools and techniques. Must be capable of completing small construction projects such as but not limited to: painting, replacing windows, constructing a wall partition, repairing leaky faucets and or drain traps. Will be required to take written instructions or follow blue prints to complete construction/ maintenance projects. Travel may be required to assist another DEC working circle. Will be required to work off ladders, scaffolding and lifting equipment. Will be required to assist in the removal of hazardous trees. Must be able to operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, bull dozer's, loaders, graders, tractors and back hoes. Must be able to traverse difficult terrain. Must be able to lift 50 Lbs. Must be willing to respond to off hour emergencies. Will be required to use a computer to fill out and email forms.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a temporary position with a duration of 6/1/18 through 3/31/19.
