Salary RangeFrom $16.34 to $16.34 Hourly
Minimum Qualifications 30 semester college credit hours, including or supplemented by 12 semester credit hours in forestry, which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas: pathology, entomology, forest biology, silvics, silviculture, forest mensuration, forest protection, forest soils, dendrology, botany or land surveying.
OR
One year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two or more of the following areas: forest management, including sale and removal of timber products, nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests.
Duties Description Work will be primarily on State Forests. The Forestry Technician will complete forest inventory projects, oversee timber harvesting operations, carry out timber marking for forest product sales, preform GIS data collection and mapping, conduct boundary line maintenance, and assist with prescribed fire, if qualified.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds. Must be willing to work independently, in rough terrain during all kinds of weather conditions. Experience with data collectors, GIS programs, forests of south central NY and forest health is preferred.
This is a temporary appointment with a duration of 06/01/18 - 04/01/19.
