Minimum qualifications for appointment to Engineer Trainee, NS:
A Bachelor’s or higher level degree in: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Environmental Design Engineering; Environmental Resources Engineering; Environmental Systems Engineering; Water Resources Engineering or Forestry Engineering; Materials Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Paper Engineering; Petroleum Engineering; Plastics Engineering; Aeronautical Engineering and Soil and Water Resources Engineering; Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the degrees listed above. **
**If you possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering Science, you must provide your transcript or documentation by the education institution that specifically states what the engineering concentration is;

Proof of successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
If you are applying with proof of successful completion of the FE examination, you must also have one year of engineering experience in sanitary, public health or environmental engineering.
NOTE: Individuals appointed as an Engineer Trainee are required to complete a minimum of one year of successful performance as an Engineer Trainee and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. If you obtain your FE by the end of the first year, you will be advanced to the appropriate appoint-level-changed (PR-50) Grade 20 Assistant Engineer title. If you do not obtain your FE by the end of the second year of the traineeship, you will be terminated from your position.

Duties Description Job Posting Duties for the Assistant Engineer/Engineer Trainee Position in Remedial Bureau D
Project manager position for various state-funded and privately-funded remedial program sites. Duties include management and oversight of investigation and cleanup projects in the State’s Superfund, Brownfield and RCRA Corrective Action programs. Duties will involve: interaction with remedial parties, property owners, the public and governmental agencies; oversight of remediation sites, remedial consultants and contractors; review of site conditions and data to assess the nature and extent of site contamination, and evaluation of remedial alternatives and remedy selection; design and implementation of selected remedies, and monitoring of remedy effectiveness. The project manager is expected to manage multiple projects, while prioritizing workload and addressing all site engineering and administrative needs. Additional duties will be discussed during interviews.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime and overnight travel may be required. Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40 hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
