Candidates holding a permanent position of Senior Attorney may be eligible for transfer.

Duties Description The Senior Attorney in the Legal Hearings Unit provides legal representation of the Uninsured Employers’ Fund (UHF) and Workers’ Compensation Board at Workers’ Compensation Hearings and other legal forums. The incumbent will be responsible for: Reviewing case folders for the purpose of determining case history and status and performing any necessary pre-hearing work; Preparing for hearing by planning strategy and identifying appropriate issues for the hearing; Representing UEF at hearings in professional, effective and efficient manner; Reviewing files for any necessary follow–up work, including scheduling of medical exams, depositions and preparation of legal memoranda when necessary; Reviewing decisions and taking necessary action; Preparing LHU-1’s after each hearing; Handling large volume of cases in appropriate and effective manner; Determining when appeals are necessary and appropriate; Preparing appeal documents and ensure they are clearly identifying appeal issues and grounds for appeal; and appearing before the Board to advocate on behalf of UEF in an effective and appropriate manner.
