Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience under a skilled journey-level welder which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. In addition, must have Welder Certification by NYS Department of Transportation. The candidate must obtain a valid CDL B License before completing probation and as a condition to be able to pass probation.
Duties Description Candidate's work would include journey-level acetylene and electric arc welding, brazing, soldering, oxy-acetylene cutting, drilling, boring, tapping, in repairing high level bridges. The candidate will be fabricating bridge members and accessories in the shop and in the field; supervises helpers and laborers engaged in major steel repairs to bridges; using shop drawings and plans fabricates steel members, catwalks, ladders and light fixtures and installs items on high-level bridges using scaffolds and boatswain's chair which the employee rigged; works as a blacksmith and welder in fabricating special purpose tools and making repairs to equipment. This position may require supervision of other employees and helpers.
