QUALIFICATIONS
G14 - Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, infectious diseases or a related field and one year of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
G18 – Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, infectious diseases or a related field and two years of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in biology, microbiology, infectious diseases or a related field and one year of post-degree experience in the appropriate field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate will have professional work experience in clinical laboratory sciences, biology, microbiology, veterinary medicine, wildlife biology, public health or infectious diseases. Experience in necropsy, fluorescent microscopy, data management, cell culture, and molecular techniques. Bachelor’s degree in biological or chemical sciences and a minimum of two years’ experience in the handling of infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level 2 containment. Excellent written and communication skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office programs including Access, Excel and Word.
Duties Description The selected candidate will be trained in all aspects of rabies diagnosis including data analysis, real-time and conventional PCR and molecular laboratory techniques, developing and troubleshooting with molecular assays, necropsy, microscopy, virus isolation, cell culture techniques, and serology; will be involved with public health rabies and collaborative ongoing projects with Federal and State agencies. Once trained, the candidate will be expected to work well with the lab team and independently.
Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may also be required.
