Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be reachable on the Secretary 1 eligible list or eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

To be eligible to transfer under Section 70.1, candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to a salary grade 9 or higher. If the applicant is not currently in a title that requires having passed a typing proficiency exam, or has not previously held a keyboard or secretarial title, the candidate must take and pass a typing proficiency exam to qualify for transfer.

Duties Description • Communicate frequently with courts at all levels, the District Attorney’s (DA) Office, the DA’s Appeals Bureau, and other parts of OAG, to request information and documents (i.e. appellate documents, leave letters, decisions, and to arrange for the pick-up of plea and sentencing minutes when appropriate).
• Open, review, sort and distribute the mail. This includes reviewing all incoming court documents and identifying if they are relevant to the Criminal Appeals/Habeas Corpus Bureau, if they are not, the documents must be forwarded appropriately.
• Ensure that all documentation is received by the attorneys in a timely manner, this includes maintaining a tickler of what documents and transcripts have been requested. Follow-up with courts as needed.
• Make travel arrangements and prepare travel vouchers for attorneys.
• Assist attorneys with the filing of responses and serving opposing party by proof-reading and cite-checking, making copies of the filings, and arranging for service.
• Prepare memos and letters as assigned by the attorneys.
• Prepare courtesy filings for courts and service copies for adversaries.
• Maintain the case tracking database.
• Close files and arrange for storage.
• Perform general office duties as needed, including scanning, faxing, copying, and answer phones etc.
• Order office supplies and act as a backup person to request repairs on equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments It is preferred that applicants have a strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Applicants should possess excellent communication and problem solving skills.
