Minimum Qualifications NEW YORK STATE EMPLOYEE TRANSFER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Accountant Trainee*: Current New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title equated to G-13 or above, and deemed eligible for transfer to Accountant Trainee 1 under section 70.1 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.

Senior Accountant*: Current New York State employee with one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Senior Accountant OR Current New York State employee with one year of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service in a G-16 title designated as eligible for transfer to Senior Accountant under section 70.1 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.

Individuals with current standing on the Professional Career Opportunity (PCO) eligible list with the score of 100 or above are encouraged to apply. Successful completion of a two-year traineeship leads to appointment as a Senior Accountant, SG-18.

*Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 semester credit hours in Accounting, Auditing, and/or taxation courses (Courses such as business law, economics, statistics and most finance courses cannot be counted toward the 24 semester credit hours). Duties Description Duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Prepare monthly financial statements for various programs within OGS which entails:
• Identifying fixed assets and prepaids.
• Making monthly adjusting entries.
• Reconciling all balance sheet accounts.
• Identifying and recording all material variances.
• Meet with program unit as needed to discuss financial statements.
• Conducting various duties related to accounts receivables. Duties include:
• Responding to questions/concerns regarding dunning notices.
• Work with program units to coordinate requests from customers.
• Maintain customer files.
• Prepare journal entries in the Statewide Financial System as necessary.
• Addresses customer concerns and complaints regarding account balances and payments.
• Create new customers within the Statewide Financial System in order to bill.
