Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades-worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Duties Description This position is needed to complete critical hands-on labor tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the Fishing Access Sites, State Forests, and municipal flood protection projects operated and maintained by the Kirkwood Maintenance Center. Under the direction of an Operations Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant will be required to perform a variety of semiskilled maintenance, repair and related tasks. These include, but are not limited to:
Brush/tree cutting and pickup, weed whacking and collection of flood water debris deposited on flood project lands
Interior and exterior painting, including climbing ladders.
Routine plumbing work including: cutting, fitting, and threading pipe; removing existing pipes and fixtures; repairing and adjusting water mixers, thermostats, and other fixtures locating and unplugging stoppage, some janitorial work may be required.
Routine electrical work, including; installing and maintaining lighting fixtures, outlets, and switches.
Semiskilled carpentry activities including repairing doors, windows, stairs, railings, furniture, locks, and door hardware.
Ice and snow removal and grounds and building maintenance, including moving office furniture
Operation of a chainsaw and power equipment may be required.
Will be require to work safely, and may be on feet for an entire work shift except lunch and scheduled breaks. Will work outdoors in adverse environments including foul weather and with insects.
Will be required to interact with other employees and citizens in a positive, friendly manner.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
The anticipated end date of the position is 03/31/19. Work days and hours will be discussed at interview.
