Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or non-competitive 55 b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database), SG-23, OR have one year of permanent service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
2+ years of professional experience with Sybase ASE, MS SQL Server and Oracle Database Management software running on Windows and AIX operating systems.
Duties Description The incumbent of this position will perform duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
Install, Configure and maintain database software; Identify database requirements by interviewing customers; Analyze current applications and databases; Design proposed database systems; Create database objects; Monitor user activity; Perform database tuning; Develop data base standards such as naming conventions, performance standards and internal controls; Maintain Database documentation, Generate work plans, Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD's) and data dictionaries.
Additional Comments Candidates should be self-motivated and able to function effectively as a database administrator with limited oversight and minimal to moderate on-site training. They should be able to work as part of a team and in a customer-oriented environment, and possess good problem-solving and communication skills. They should understand the importance of database integrity in terms of both efficiency and security.
