Minimum Qualifications Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 2 (G24); OR New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent- permanent competitive service as a Public Health Nutritionist 1 (G22) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

The preferred candidates would have experience with Federal Nutrition Programs and the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.

Duties Description The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program which provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs and adults in day care.
The Public Health Nutritionist 2 (PHN2) will work in the Centers Unit of CACFP. The PHN2 will participate in long and short-range nutrition program planning and develop policies and procedures to ensure adherence to federal regulations and State requirements. Responsibilities include providing supervision and oversight for activities carried out by staff including: reviewing new program applications for approval, coordinating the yearly review of renewal applications, menu and budget evaluations of participating organizations and assisting with review and evaluation of food vendor contracts. This position will be responsible for assessing program review reports and corrective action plans, evaluating performance and communicating issues to direct supervisors. The PHN2 will also participate in on-site reviews and provide expert technical assistance and nutrition expertise to participating sponsoring organizations and CACFP staff as it relates to children, teens and handicapped older adults. Other tasks include planning and conducting training for sponsors on CACFP regulations and nutrition topics, coordinating with the Fiscal Unit on oversight of center claims and audit issues, and conducting desk reviews of sponsor claims. Supervisory responsibilities include oversight for the training, staff development and prioritization of workload for three Public Health Nutritionist 1s (G-22).
The position will include extensive use of the current CACFP Information and Payment System and will be involved in testing and implementation of a new system.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, competitive appointment. Frequent Statewide travel, including to areas that may not be served by public transportation, will be required. Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) as defined above must be maintained for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist 1.
