Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must be reachable on the current NYS Civil Service List for Safety & Security Officer 2 or currently in a Safety and Security Officer 2 position eligible for transfer.
In addition:
• Must have a driver’s license valid in New York State. A conditional license is not acceptable.
• Ability to work effectively within the treatment team.
• Ability to act independently.
• Ability to meet and maintain criminal background and physical standards.
• Ability to accurately observe and document conditions relating to welfare and security.
NOTE:
Due to the peace officer status of incumbents, re-fingerprinting, including payment of all applicable fees, is required even for an existing employee who may already have “search and retain” status with the Division of Criminal Justice Services.
Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include, but not limited to:
• All duties of Safety and Security Officer I.
• Provides guidance and supervision to officers conducting Family Care inspections throughout the State.
• Schedules and assigns officers to specific shifts, assignments and inspection duties by region.
• Assists the Chief Safety Officer(s) in performance appraisal of subordinate Safety Officers.
• Regularly conducts Family Care inspections.
• Regularly conducts Family Care inspections with subordinates and provides on-site instruction in Family Care inspection techniques.
• Establishes working relationships with Family Care Coordinators throughout the state.
• Assists the Coordinator of Safety and Security in the establishment of an updated Family Care inspection program.
• Participate in Family Care Steering Committee meetings to assist in the Family Care Program development and revision.
• Reviews subordinate officers’ reports of activities and incidents for accuracy, completeness, and propriety of format.
• May compile narrative and tabular summary reports of subordinate officers’ activities and significant incidents handled by the Safety/Security force in order to inform the appropriate supervisor of the force’s workload and significant problems.
• Assists Coordinator of Safety and Security with completion of internal reviews of Safety and Security operations statewide.
• Statewide overnight travel is required
• Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license.
• Ability to act independently.
• Ability to accurately observe and document conditions relating to welfare and security.
