Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Principal Auditor; OR current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service in a position at or above SG-25 and eligible for transfer under section 70.1 or 52.6* of the Civil Service Law.
*Candidates applying under section 52.6 must also have earned 24 semester credit hours in Accounting, Auditing, and/or Taxation courses (Courses such as business law, economics, statistics and most finance courses cannot be counted toward the 24 semester credit hours). You may be asked to provide a copy of your transcript in order to qualify your eligibility.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Director of Internal Audit (DIA), a Principal Auditor assists with administering the activities of the Bureau of Internal Audit Services. These duties include, but are not limited to, assisting the DIA in:
• Preparing, monitoring and modifying the Bureau’s audit plan in accordance with the strategic planning and risk assessment processes.
• Evaluating workloads, prioritizing assignments and scheduling internal audit activities and staff.
• Promoting staff development by identifying appropriate training and professional development opportunities for staff.
• Coordinating annual internal control testing and preparing NYS Division of Budget and Office of the State Comptroller internal control certifications.
As a Bureau manager, the Principal Auditor is responsible for the supervision and/or management of service activities, quality assurance, risk assessment and training coordination. Additionally, the Principal Auditor performs the duties of the DIA when he/she is absent. This requires a working knowledge of the administrative system for time and process management, performance measurement and reporting, as well as rendering discretionary decisions.
