Minimum Qualifications Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate maintaining survey quality notebook for inventory and note taking purposes, and will be proficient with Garmin GPS systems. Should have experience in backcountry trail work, preferable with trail hardening and drainage techniques.

Duties Description Will work individually or with a partner in the High Peaks Wilderness. Projects will include inventorying and prepping trail projects for the 2019 season. Each week the individual will work on tasks, that could be roadside, indoors or could be in the backcountry for the entire week, camping or staying at one of DEC’s Interior Outposts. Most of the projects are located 6 miles from the nearest road and will require a strenuous hike with heavy pack to get to each week. Working on repairing and relocating privies, moving materials to future project sites, drainage work, sign inventory and replacement and clearing blowdown. Other work will include inventorying and photographing campsites, signs and trails; including entering data into a spreadsheet. Will work with and maintain survey quality notebook, GPS, hand tools, griphoists and other tools to complete projects. There will be some work entering notes into a spreadsheet. Will work under the supervision of Forester 1, but may work alone or as part of the group during the day. Will be required to communicate effectively, take precise notes and keep information organized.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

These are seasonal, hourly appointments with an anticipated end date of 3/31/19. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed above. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
