Minimum Qualifications G18 - Bachelor’s degree in one of the natural sciences or a related field and two years of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in one of the natural sciences and one year of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Microbiology laboratory experience under biosafety level 2 and 3 conditions, familiarity with diagnostic platforms including bacterial culture, tissue culture, cloning, real-time PCR, sequencing, mass spectrometry, and immunoassays.
Duties Description The incumbent will perform clinical testing in the Wadsworth Center’s Biodefense and Virology Laboratories; will be cross trained in the operations of both labs. Duties will include those for surveillance, outbreak investigation, special disease and emerging pathogen detection, reference testing, pandemic preparedness and response, the development and investigation of new testing methodologies and the investigation of viral infections and their associated pathogenesis and disease; will also be critical to biothreat event responses in compliance with all state and federal regulations and diagnostic testing of influenza and encephalitis; will be cross-trained to address surge testing needs while maintaining quality testing and optimal turn around.
Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. The selected candidate will be required to be fingerprinted and undergo a Federal Department of Justice background check for select agent access and must maintain training and proficiency as deemed by an external Quality Assurance Officer. Work hours may be variable. Some travel may be required, which could include travel not served by public transportation.
