Salary RangeFrom $81856 to $100822 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Eight (8) years of information technology experience including experience in System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for major projects including project management and oversight of application development.
Bachelors or higher degree including 15 credit hours in computer science/technology may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
Preferred: Experience in the design and implementation of a public safety/criminal justice technology project
Duties Description The Project Assistants act as project managers of concurrent teams in the oversight, planning, and implementation activities required to enact the databases, background checks, licensure, guns, and ammunition tracking for the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 (NYSAFE Act) legislation. Each Project Assistant oversees one or more of the following initiatives: Assault Weapon Registration, Mental Health Records and SAFE Check, and Ammunition and Private Sales.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Oversees one or more projects to ensure that they are managed consistently to ensure that the SAFE Act goals are met in a timely manner and have a successful outcome;
• Reviews and approves project scope, and working with business stakeholders, provides direction to project teams regarding scope and issue management. Works with stakeholders to develop change management and training plans;
• Reviews and provides input to the SAFE Act Program Managers on the roles and responsibility matrix to define teams’ structure and inter-dependencies, especially where structure crosses organizations and agencies;
• Proactively manage potential impacts of projects on stakeholder organizations, ensuring risks are understood and communicated, and that stakeholder organizations are prepared for project outcomes;
• Coordinates project performance and resource needs with the other work of the affected bureaus or departments;
• Identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks using project scheduling software;
• Identifies risks and their potential impact on the project, escalates and assumes responsibility for mitigation strategies for project related risk;.
• Plans and conducts project analysis sessions, such as project close-outs and Joint Application Design sessions.
Additional Comments Please note that this position is funded by the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) but will be assigned to work for the Public Safety Cluster. Approval to fill this position is pending. This position will be located in Albany but the exact location has not yet been determined.
