Duties Description Position Summary

The Assistant Director of CRE Equity Investments (Acquisitions) will work collaboratively with the Director of CRE Equity Investments and other Real Estate department management to formulate and implement the equity real estate investment strategy.

Job Duties

The duties of the Assistant Director of CRE Equity Investments include, but are not limited to, the following:

Identify, evaluate and underwrite new or additional equity investments through the following investment vehicles: separate accounts, commingled funds, joint ventures and public real estate securities
Manage, either directly or in collaboration with NYSTRS real estate advisors, the investment due diligence process
Together with NYSTRS counsel, or special counsel, assume responsibility for the negotiation and approval of appropriate investment documents
Oversee junior staff participation in all acquisitions related activities
Perform property and market inspections as necessary
Attend industry conferences, trainings and meetings as necessary to stay abreast of industry trends and to establish business relationships
Establish relationships with peer institutional investors to compare/contrast portfolio strategies and opportunities
Prepare and make presentations to the Internal Investment Committee, the Real Estate Advisory Committee and the Board

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in training, mentoring and supervising student interns and Investment Fellows as needed
Monitor commingled fund performance to identify drivers of performance, conflicts and concerns
Represent NYSTRS at LP advisory committee meetings as needed
Participate in the preparation of the portfolio strategic plan

Travel and Work Environment

Periodic travel is required
Business needs may require working outside of normal business hours

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field; AND
Six (6) years of professional investment experience including at least three (3) years analyzing, evaluating, recommending, or monitoring institutional private and/or public market investments; AND
Three (3) years in a supervisory or management role

Previous financial analysis experience
Ability to work in a team environment, providing and accepting input/feedback on transactions
Previous real estate experience and knowledge
Computer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft products
Commitment to providing exceptional customer service
Excellent interpersonal skills
Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a closely related field
Possessing or pursuing one or more of the following certifications: CFA, CPA, CCIM, CAIA
