Job Specifics
Duties Description The Director of SUNY Procurement Development and Engagement ("Director") will operate within SUNY's Office of System-wide Procurement and System Collaborations and serve as the system-level leader for ensuring excellence in procurement training, skill-development, and cooperation across the SUNY System, driving alignment and engagement across all 64 campuses and SUNY hospitals.
The Director will be responsible for ensuring a singular and strategic voice for procurement across the SUNY system, developing and delivering training and development programs that build procurement capacity across the system. In this role, the Director reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for System-wide Procurement & System Collaborations.
The primary areas of responsibility for this position include, but are not limited to:
Aiding in driving the strategic direction of the Chancellor and Board of Trustees by ensuring that procedures and policies are complete and concise, ensuring a strong basis for efficient procurement within the strictures of State and Local requirements.
Leading procurement training and material development by developing professional development programs for campus and hospital procurement professionals.
Serving as a lead change management agent with SUNY's work to streamline procurement operations.
Serving as lead on development and execution of appropriate procurement procedures, policies, and guidance as both a standard of operation and in response to external issues such as changes in legislation, audit findings, etc.
Working directly with campus, hospital, and System Administration professionals to understand opportunities for efficiencies and opportunities within the procurement area.
Managing change management during and after SUNY's efforts to streamline procurement operations in support of the academic mission.
Engaging with diverse campus and hospital audiences, including non-procurement stakeholders such as campus presidents, hospital presidents, and chief information officers to ensure understanding of procurement processes.
Developing and maintaining a singular and consistent standard for procurement documents across the system (Request for Proposals, Invitations for Bids, etc.).
Designing and delivering training programs to build procurement across SUNY, including campuses and hospitals, ensuring alignment on procurement processes, policies, and priorities including New York State procurement laws, SUNY policy, contract management, and administrative best practices, including but not limited to toolkits, presentations, and multimedia resources.
Expanding upon existing communities of practice among campus and hospital procurement officers, business officers, and hospital leaders to creating / expand shared resources; fostering cross-campus collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Collaborating with the SUNY Center for Professional Development and campus partners to coordinate and deliver procurement professional development programming across the system.
Evaluating procurement training and event effectiveness through surveys, feedback mechanisms, and outcome data, using findings to continuously improve programming and the success of the System-wide Procurement Office.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications The Director must possess exceptional strategic communications skills, change management capability, and organizational leadership to manage multiple high-impact initiatives across the SUNY system. The successful professional will have the ability to translate complex subject matter into clear, compelling training materials for diverse audiences as well as build alignment across a large, decentralized organization undergoing significant transformation in the area of procurement streamlining.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business management, journalism, English, or related field.
Evidenced experience leading change management, with demonstrated success in large or complex organizations, with a focus on developing and delivering training programs / professional development initiatives.
Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex subject matter for diverse audiences.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in business management, journalism, English, or related field.
Experience in higher education, healthcare, public sector, or governmental procurement.
Familiarity with SUNY system operations, campus structure, and New York-centric State / local government.
Demonstrated success driving organizational alignment and change management on administrative or operational processes across large, complex, or decentralized institutions.
Proficiency with digital content management systems and multimedia content development.
Additional Comments - Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 annually.
