Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or noncompetitive 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) OR one year of permanent competitive or noncompetitive 55b/c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law OR be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) eligible list.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $66,494 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming). The incumbent of this position will work as a member of the application development team, provide programming support for NYSED's enterprise applications and develop Information Technology (IT) solutions to support the business needs of the New York State Education Department (NYSED). This position requires a willingness and aptitude to learn quickly. Duties of this position will include but are not limited to:
• Developing and maintaining IT system(s) written in Java, Struts, PL/SQL, SQL, and XML. This includes new analysis and development, troubleshooting, testing, and deployment;
• Collaborating with program offices and IT staff to understand the business requirements of the information system(s);
• Analyzing and recommending system modifications based on program office business requirements;
• Coordinating data exchanges between the NYSED’s IT systems;
• Identifying and troubleshooting problems as well as implementing necessary solutions;
• Ensuring that systems and procedures are properly documented, meet Department standards, and follow generally accepted IT practices, so as to foster the integrity of automated systems and the data within.
The following skills and abilities are essential to successful performance of the job:
• Knowledge and practical experience programming in Java, Struts, PL/SQL, SQL, and XML
• Knowledge and experience with Oracle Databases and UNIX operating environments.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval.
A compressed workweek may be allowed after employee successfully completes probation and at supervisor's discretion.
