Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid NYS Reading Certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid NYS Teacher of the Deaf Certification.
• Possess the unique combination of Teacher of the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and also a Teacher of Reading.

Duties Description The NYS Education Department’s School for the Deaf is seeking an Instructor (Reading Teacher/Teacher of the Deaf). Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Provide direct instruction in the area of reading to students in a K-12 setting.
• Provide push-in and/or pull out services.
• Provide Academic Intervention Services for students in need.
• Consult with classroom teachers on successful strategies used to increase student literacy levels.
• Consult with teachers on successful strategies used to increase student literacy levels.
• Consult with teachers and administrators on developing action plans based on data driven decision making.
• Maintain a safe learning environment for students.
• Assist in the development of reading and literacy goals for individual education plans.
• Collaborate with educational team to provide a focus on literacy skills needed to become college and career ready.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the common core and the shifts as they pertain to reading.
• Adhere to the policies and procedures of the school in relation to securing students.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a permanent, 10-month position.
