Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trade worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.

Duties Description The estimated duration of this assignment is 9 months. Upon completion of the assignment, these positions will be terminated. 

Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Prepare and repair surfaces and apply plaster or concrete base.

Spread adhesive base on surfaces.

Apply scratch and finish coats of plaster to desired thickness and texture.

Prepare surfaces and install VCT tile as needed.

Conduct skilled surface preparation and application of primer and finish coats of paint in areas designated in the scope of work.

Assist in repair or installation of doors, walls, cabinets, and other structures as needed per the scope of work.

Perform semi-skilled masonry repairs and installation activities such as stripping

wall paper, patching, priming and painting as needed.

Perform semi-skilled carpentry activities including repairing doors, windows, window sashes, storm windows, stairs, replacing structural steel and wood beams, installing countertops and cabinets etc.

Operate and maintain heating and hot water equipment.

Replace and repair various lighting fixtures, outlets and switches.

Assist with general maintenance of HVAC systems including filter changes, vent cleaning; Maintain Fire Damper systems including creating access panels, testing and minor repairs.

Additional Comments The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill three Maintenance Assistant positions. These are temporary/hourly positions in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in the Central New York area. These positions will be part of our Central New York Revite team. The Central New York Revite team travels to various facilities in the Central New York area performing special project renovations, ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental improvement projects. This region includes Albany, Binghamton, Marcy, Utica, and Syracuse. Candidates are not eligible for reimbursement of travel costs.
