Strike teams preform surveys, manual removals, education and other activities as assigned on State Park lands. Projects are prioritized and vary from rare plant protection to larger scale partnership projects.
Strike teams will travel across assigned OPRHP Regions, and will be expected to camp when necessary. See http://nysparks.com/regions/default.aspx for OPRHP regional information.
There will be five Invasive Species Strike Teams statewide, all working independently towards the same Agency goals.
Duties:
Strike Team supervisors are expected to be extremely reliable, independent and motivated with experience in natural resource management; flexibility, problem solving and leadership skills are necessary. At least one year of experience with invasives species identification and control methods is preferred. Supervisor must have past experience delegating tasks, working in a team and being responsible for the safety of others. Primary duties include supervision of manual and sometimes mechanical removal of invasive species, management and submission of both paper and electronic field data, and insuring post-removal monitoring is complete. The supervisor will meet twice weekly with supervising biologist for briefing and debriefing. Some overnight camping trips will be necessary.
