Minimum Qualifications The New York State School for the Blind in Batavia, NY is seeking to fill a Child Care Aide 1 or Child Care Aide 1 Substitute position to work in the residential after school setting. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for maintaining the safety and well being of students; escorting students to and from activities; attending to students’ personal hygiene needs and the development of appropriate daily living skills; and providing supervision and assistance as necessary. 

Duties Description MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be able to read, write and communicate effectively with students and staff; follow written and spoken instructions; and relate to the students being supervised. Incumbents must be in good health, good physical condition and able to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children and participate in physical activities such as swimming.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

An Associates Degree or higher in the Human Services field.

Experience as a Nurse’s Aide;

Skills in sign language;

Experience in behavior modification, orientation and mobility;

Certification in water safety, CPR, first aid, advanced first aid, or EMT. 

Demonstrated skills working with the multiply disabled.

High School diploma or equivalency.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, 10 month position (Child Care Aide 1), or a temporary, on-call position (Child Care Aide 1 Substitute) for coverage of the 2nd and 3rd shifts. 2nd shift hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00pm to 10:00pm or 11:00pm, Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 9:00pm or 10:00pm or 11:00pm, and Sunday from 5:00pm to 10:00pm/11:00pm. 3rd shift hours are Sunday thru Thursday from 11:00pm to 7:00am.

Fingerprinting through the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List are required for employment.

Salary for Child Care Aide 1: $27,755 (10-month rate)
Hourly Rate for Child Care Aide 1 Substitute: $15.95/Hour
