Minimum Qualifications MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Education Program Assistant 1 OR be reachable on the Education Department’s Public Administration Traineeship Transition (PATT) eligible list OR on the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligible list OR for appointment to Education Trainee 1, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Agency Program Aide or Administrative Aide. Appointments from the PATT or the PCO lists require completion of a two-year traineeship which leads to a Grade 14.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of the Professions (OP) anticipates filling an Education Program Assistant 1 (EPA 1) position in the office of the Boards for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dietetics and Nutrition, and the Committees for Athletic Trainers, Medical Physics, and Perfusion. The EPA 1 will perform a variety of activities in a team environment to provide support for a variety of functions connected to the licensure and regulation of professions. Duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Review and approve international medical student applications for short-term and long-term clinical clerkships in accordance with state law and office policy;
• Reply to internal and external correspondence that includes both written and telephone inquiries;
• Answer questions relating to medical education, clinical clerkships, professional misconduct, obtaining a physician license, registration or limited permit, and other profession related inquiries;
• Review and recommend approval or denial of applications for certain certificates of incorporation, articles of organization, and Freedom of Information Law requests;
• Review, organize, and maintain hospital and/or international medical school affiliation agreements;
• Coordinate with Board office staff and OP’s offices as necessary;
• Supervise secretarial and/or administrative staff; and
• Use various computer applications to update data on internal and external websites and databases.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent contingent appointment. *The salary above applies to candidates appointed to Education Program Assistant 1, SG-14. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Education Trainee 1 starts at $35,535, and for current NYS employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates hired into the traineeship will be advanced to Education Program Assistant 1 upon successful completion of a two-year traineeship. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $53,606 based on annual performance advances.
