Minimum Qualifications Open to New York State Employees

One year of permanent, competitive service as a Nurse Practitioner (Family Health) to be eligible for 70.1 transfer

OR

On or before the date of filing your application, you must have NYS Registered to practice as Registered Professional Nurse; certification NYS Education Department to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Health.

****Specialty area must coincide with the scope of the practice performed by an incumbent; this denotes the appropriate parenthetic and reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title.


Open Competitive Opportunity

Preference will be given to those with two years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a primary care setting.

Duties Description The Students at the SUNY New Paltz are young adults navigating the health care system independently for the first time.

The nurse practitioner’s role will be to:

Provide quality care in a compassionate environment
Teach student how to navigate the health care system and make healthy lifestyle choices.
Evaluate, diagnose and treat student patient’s illnesses in a clinic based environment under the direction of the physician director.
Provide gynecological care including physical examination, prescribing oral contraceptives, diagnosing and treating sexually transmitted infections.
Teach sexually transmitted infection prevention and safe sexual behaviors.
Health history review and assessment including evaluations for overseas travel and internships.

Additional Comments Preference will be given to those with two years’ experience as a nurse practitioner in a primary care setting.

Your degree or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If your degree or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service. You must pay the required evaluation fee.
