Minimum Qualifications For Permanent Appointment: One year of permanent competitive service as a Senior Building Construction Engineer or Senior Architect. Must possess New York State certification as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect.

For Provisional Appointment: Two years of experience supervising or inspecting building construction projects, including structural and architectural elements of the building AND possession of a New York State Professional Engineering License with current registration OR a New York State Registered Architect's License and current registration.

Duties Description Senior Building Construction Engineers in the Department of State provide technical assistance on code issues to local government officials, design professionals, and the general public and may assist or otherwise review construction documents to insure conformance with the uniform code. They participate in the general administration and enforcement of the code, specifically in those municipalities which have declined to enforce the code themselves. Regional staff also process routine variance petitions and serve as technical advisors to the members of the regional boards of review which hear and decide petitions for more complex variances.

Senior Building Construction Engineers also assist in the process for rule making concerning the amendments to the Uniform Code and the Energy Code. They may research, draft, and prepare proposed amendments, and assist in the promulgation of official interpretations.

Senior Building Construction Engineers provide post-disaster building damage assessments, and supervise volunteer code enforcement disaster assistance response program participants.
