Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher and a valid NYS Teaching Certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology Education, or Business and Marketing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who have:
• A valid NYS Teacher of the Deaf Certification or Special Education Certification.
• Familiarity with Response to Intervention.
• Knowledge of administering and scoring New York State Assessments.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $62,360-79,501 based on annual performance advances.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Deaf is seeking an Instructor certified in one of the Career and Technical Education course areas. Applicants certified in Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology Education, or Business and Marketing are encouraged to apply. Duties of this position will include but not be limited to:
• Instructing students in one of the Career and Technical Education course certification areas: Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology Education, or Business and Marketing;
• Preparing daily lesson plans, learning units and instructional materials based on curriculum standards, course outlines and associated assessments developed by the New York State Education Department;
• Conducting classroom instruction using current teaching methods, observations and facilitation, as well as computer technology skills, audiovisual equipment, and group projects as appropriate;
• Working collaboratively with Special Education Assistants in our career preparation areas;
• Working with Administration and Career Preparation personnel to develop a comprehensive occupational education sequence at the commencement level;
• Evaluating and assessing student progress and involvement in the learning process through classroom observation, administering tests, correcting work assignments and using grading systems such as rubrics;
• Managing and maintaining order and discipline in the classroom and elsewhere on campus;
• Assisting students in reaching personal goals as defined in their Individual Education Programs (IEPs);
• Supervising after-school detention as required;
• Preparing evaluation reports, report cards and deficiency notices;
• Writing quarterly progress reports and IEPs for all students;
• Maintaining daily attendance records; and
• Participating in departmental staff, parent and multidisciplinary team meetings and meetings of various committees to discuss students’ learning progress, behavior, needs and other problems related to education.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a permanent, 10-month position.
