Duties Description Invasive Species Strike Team Supervisors are responsible for a three person Invasive Species Strike Team Specialist team under the Regional Natural Resource Steward-Biologist and Invasive Species Program Staff. These Invasive Species Strike Teams are a crucial component of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) statewide Invasive Species Management Program. Strike teams perform surveys, manual removals, education and other activities as assigned on State Park lands. Projects are prioritized and vary from rare plant protection to larger scale partnership projects.
Supervisors are responsible for receiving weekly schedules and reporting back progress at the end of the week, organizing day to day activities, troubleshooting logistical issues, keeping strike teams safe, ensuring accurate data collection, and working hard alongside crew members. Strike team supervisors are expected to be able to operate their crews independently with minimal day to day oversight.
Strike teams will travel across assigned OPRHP Regions (See http://nysparks.com/regions/default.aspx for OPRHP regional delineations.), and will be expected to camp in State Parks at or near work sites each week. There will be two Invasive Species Strike Teams statewide, both working independently towards the same Agency goals.
The East Strike Team will cover the following regions: Long Island, New York City, Taconic, Palisades, Saratoga-Capital and the eastern portion of Thousand Islands. This team will report to Minnewaska State Park Preserve, located in the Palisades region in Gardiner, NY for weekly briefing and debriefing.
The Western Strike Team will cover Central, Finger Lakes, Genesee, Niagara, Allegany and the western portion of Thousand Islands Region. The Western team will report to Clark Reservation State Park, located outside Syracuse in Central Region, for weekly briefing and debriefing.
Please note these positions do not include healthcare benefits or paid leave.
