Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Correctional studies, Counseling, Criminal justice, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or Vocational rehabilitation, also two years of experience providing individual and/or group counseling in a recognized correctional, criminal justice, or community/human services program. A Master's degree in the above subjects may be substituted for one year of required experience. Experience must include responsibilities for conducting counseling sessions designed to provide participants with counseling on significant social personal problems such as alcohol and drug abuse, mental, behavioral and emotional problems. In addition to the above subject matter, you must also pass a qualifying multiple choice test in understanding written Spanish given at the time of the written test. Failure on the written Spanish test will eliminate you from further consideration from this title.
Duties Description Meets with assigned offenders to gather information about an offenders to gather information about their background, interests, and abilities. Provides the offender with information about the facility and its programs. Guides a group of offenders in identifying individual or group problems that may affect behavior and attitudes. May serve or act as a chairperson of one or more committees which may evaluate, classify and program offenders.
Additional Comments This is a provisional position, pending Civil Service examination, and being reachable on the exam to remain in the title. If appointed at the trainee 1 level, enter a two-year traineeship leading to the Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator (Spanish Speaking) SG-19.
