Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Education Improvement Services OR be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title.

Section 70.4 Transfer – A candidate may be eligible for nomination for Section 70.4 transfer to Assistant in Education Improvement Services if they have standing on the Civil Service eligible list for this title and are currently a New York State employee in a title allocated at Grade 20 or higher.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of P-12 Education is seeking candidates to fill the position of Assistant in Education Improvement Services in the Office of Grants Management. This Office oversees the review and approval of nonpublic school mandated service claims as well as the processing of several State and federal grants for P-12 program offices. The incumbent in this position will provide oversight of grant programs and will assist in developing, conducting, supporting and reviewing programs which help schools improve on educational services. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform programmatic review and approval of Mandated Services Aid claims submitted by over 1,000 nonpublic schools on an annual basis, including review and approval of claims and amendments, and follow up with school districts for additional information, as needed;

• Establish positive working relationships with nonpublic school personnel and provide technical assistance regarding issues with Mandated Services;

• Develop processes and procedures in conjunction with other program offices for the processing of Federal and state grants;

• Navigate Department systems and websites for research and in response to requests from colleagues and the general public;

• Assist the Associate in Education Improvement Services with the completion and analysis of various reports as needed; and

• Supervise staff and perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent-contingent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.

* Leads to a maximum salary of $81,415 based on annual performance advances.
