Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Preferred Qualifications: Certified Pesticide Applicator; NYS Class B CDL with air brake endorsement; must complete chain saw certification, including First Aid and CPR; experience in supervision.
Duties Description Maintenance Assistants perform routine, repetitive maintenance, installation, and repair tasks in one or a combination of the mechanical, building construction, motor equipment, and electrical trades. Incumbents may also perform journey-level activities, under supervision or after receiving detailed instructions, to learn and perfect their skills. Incumbents operate heavy equipment, such as trucks, tractors, front end loaders, etc.; operate light self-propelled equipment, such as power mowers, chain saws, power saws, etc.
Incumbent will perform a variety of tasks utilizing power and manual hand tools, including but not limited to saws, hammers, drills, sanders, etc. Possess ability to perform a variety of construction trades, including but not limited to masonry, carpentry, and electrical. Apply chemical and mechanical control of pests, such as bees, feral cats, ants, rodents, and groundhogs in and around buildings. Operating equipment in the process of maintaining and rehabilitating the Department’s infrastructure, including 14 facilities and associated assets.
Additional Comments Work hours and schedule will be discussed at interview. Generally work hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is seasonal with a duration from 4/1/15 through 3/31/16.
