Minimum Qualifications Must have a working knowledge of ArcGIS 10.0, which is the primary software for the department's GIS, and a good understanding of wildfire science.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in maintenance, construction or landscape work.

Duties Description This long-term seasonal position will be dedicated to using the Department's geographical information system (GIS) to process wildfire data and create reports and graphics from said data. Data will generally be provided by the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control and the Division of Forest Protection, and will need to be processed to match the current GIS format. This position will work periodically with other Department GIS specialists during emergency responses, training and exercises. This may include working at a temporary remote location for the duration of the emergency, training or exercise. This position will support the Division's or Department's Emergency Management Unit's programs as necessary. The incumbent will be expected to take advanced training when available and while working, and make short presentations to Division of Forest Protection employees as appropriate.

Additional Comments This is expected to be a long-term, year-round hourly position. Work schedule will be flexible between Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with an average work week of 32 hours. Some emergency incidents will require or provide work opportunities during weekends or overnight in accordance with overtime work rules.
